A Napoli star has made a decision over his future amid Man Utd interest, while two top Real Madrid stars want Gareth Bale to move on this summer, according to Tuesday’s European papers.
NAPOLI STAR ANNOUNCES MAN UTD SNUB
Napoli star Dries Mertens has confirmed that he will not be leaving the club this summer despite interest from Manchester United. The Belgian striker has been one of Serie A’s most impressive performers over the last couple of seasons, and a €28m release clause in his contract has tempted Jose Mourinho.
Arsenal have also been linked with the former PSV man, who has scored 89 goals and added 58 assists in just over 230 appearances for Napoli, including 21 goals in all competitions this season.
However, Mertens has revealed that the arrival of coach Carlo Ancelotti has convinced him to stay with the Naples club for next season.
“I’ve already talked to Ancelotti. He wants me to stay and he asked me if I wanted to stay at Napoli. He was persuasive, really persuasive”, the 30-year-old told Belgian media on Tuesday.
“The last season was really tough. Mentally it was very hard because we did 91 points but that was not enough to win the league. It has never happened in Italy and this still hurts. I’m feeling well for the World Cup, now I need to work hard after a week of holidays.”
REAL MADRID STARS CALL FOR BALE TO BE SOLD
Real Madrid stalwarts Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly want Manchester United target Gareth Bale out of the Bernabeu this summer.
Bale expressed his frustration at his lack of regular action after his match-winning display in the Champions League final against Liverpool at the weekend.
The Welshman was fuming about starting the final from the bench but bagged a stunning brace to seal a third successive European Cup win for the La Liga giants.
Real bosses immediately slapped a £200m price tag on the 28-year-old, although reports on Tuesday claimed that Bale could cost as much as £335m.
Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett is said to be planning talks with Real supremo Florentino Perez this summer, but Diario Gol claims that Perez is facing having to clear up bad blood between Ramos, Ronaldo and Bale.
The Spanish publication reports that Ramos and Ronaldo do not want the former Tottenham star in the team and that they would be happy to see him sold.
That news could boost United’s chances of signing the player, although his transfer fee would have to significantly drop for that to happen.
